There's a Lotus Evora Roadster Headed for the U.S.

The Lotus Evora 400 is easily one of our favorite sports cars on sale right now. More than anything, the numerous improvements Lotus made to the aging Evora platform show a newfound strength for a company that's had a long history of troubled finances. Now, there's more good news from the people in Hethel—especially if you like wind in your hair.
Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales confirmed that an Evora Roadster is on its way, and it's come to the U.S., in an interview with Automotive News Europe. We've previously heard rumblings that the Evora might lose its top, but this is the first confirmation that it exists and it's U.S.-bound.
Currently, Lotus is hard at work building Evora 400s for U.S. customers, but Gales says the Roadster should arrive sometime next year. As we've previously reported, Lotus will also bring the lighter, more powerful Evora Sport 410 to the U.S. sometime later this year, though likely only in limited numbers.
Gales also told Automotive News that an update to the current-generation Elise is imminent, though American customers won't get their hands on a new road-going Elise until the next-generation car arrives in 2020.
As much as we love the fixed-roof Evora, we have a suspicion that an Evora 400 Roadster would be awesome. Since the Evora is built around an extremely strong aluminum spaceframe, chopping the roof off shouldn't have a major effect on rigidity, and it'd let you hear that amazing exhaust even more. We can't wait to find out how the Evora Roadster drives.
