Dear all,

I am doing 1st time MOT in Belgium and I would need your experience.

1. Is it possible to pass MOT with GAZ monotube adjustable shocks?
2. If not, do I need to buy a 2nd hand Bilsteins or I can get a certificate from GAZ to prove that kit has been made for the S1?

Thank you in advance for your valuable recommendations.
Vasilis

You need:
1.) approval certificate (validation)
2.) installation certificate (from a certified installer)

Bad news ... GAZ does not have the approval certificate.

Was your Elise lowered befrore you brought it to Belgium?
Because a recent law say's "Belgium must accept inspected vehicles from abroad".
But the GAZ need to be mentioned on the papers.

The car is import from Nederlands, fitted with the Gaz monotube shocks.
The car has recent valid Dutch MOT (APK).

According to the new law, does it means that since has passed Dutch APK, could pass Belgian MOT as it is?

Yes, if you have on paper that the GAZ shocks where already on the car during the APK check.

You can also try and keep quiet ... maybe you've been lucky and they didn't see?
I have an AP Bigbrake kit on my Elan M100, and that's not alowed. ;)

Hint: you have a higher success-rate in Walloniƫ, maybe that's an option to?

Or you can ask if the Belgian Lotus mandatory will make/wite you an official document to legalise?

Dear Frederik,

Thank you deeply for your support.
I wrote an email to Belgian Lotus and I will be waiting for their response.

On a different note, as someone with a lot of experience in lotus community, what is your opinion on 2nd hand elise S1 that have no service history but you know that the last 1-2 owners where lotus enthusiasts and claim that they have maintained the cars properly?

I have found this S1 that I mentioned above with 150000km, no service history. I checked the car at Lotus specialist in Nederlands (VanSten), and he gave me green light for the condition of the car (No accident damage in Alu chassis, engine-brakes-gearbox run nicely). I am in a dilemma to buy the car or not. I know that prices for S1 go up in the last 3-4 years and will continue to rise in the future.

Does the fact that the car has no service book will affect its future selling price? - If i buy this car I am going to keep close record of its maintainance as I do with my other toy cars.

I would like to hear your opinion on this.

Kind regards
Vasilis

for me ... no service book is no go!

Exept the car goes for half the 'normal' price.
