This is the new Lotus Exige S, just unveiled by CEO Dany Bahar at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show. And it might not be the sort of Lotus Exige you were expecting: this new S model now runs the supercharged 3.5-litre V6 from the Evora S, meaning it not only boasts 35% more power than before, but it is also 191kg heavier.

Lotus Exige S: the spec

Lotus’s long-held mantra has been ‘add lightness’, but Bahar’s future plans call for models to rival the 458, the California and the Rapide, essentially bigger cars with bigger engines. The debate is out on whether they’ll feel like real Lotuses, but if any current car was expected to stick to that famous philosophy, it was this revised Exige.

Except emissions regulations meant the Toyota-sourced, supercharged 256bhp 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine died last year. And for its replacement, Lotus has chosen the bigger, heavier supercharged 3.5-litre V6 from the Evora S. All of which has upped the kerbweight from 889kg to 1080kg.

Still, even though the weight is up 22%, the power output is up 35%, to 345bhp. Which means the power-to-weight ratio increases from 288bhp/tonne to 319bhp/tonne. How quick is it? Lotus hasn’t yet released any performance figures (or the CO2 or fuel economy numbers) but we’d be surprised if it wasn’t able to duck under the four second mark for the 0-62mph run.

What else do we know about the new Lotus Exige S?

That new engine hides beneath brand new bodywork, influenced by Lotus’s new styling direction. The interior has been updated too, while the Premium and Premium Sport option packs respectively focus on comfort or creating the ultimate driver environment.

Grippy Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres are standard, as is Lotus DPM (Dynamic Performance Management), an ESP system with Touring, Sport and DPM Off modes. And you can spec a fourth mode, Race, which Lotus claims ‘provides the maximum possible traction out of corners’ – it's part of the Race Pack, which features a Launch Control function and a track-biased suspension set-up. You can order your new Lotus Exige now, for £54,900.

What about that white Rally Lotus Exige?

A glimpse of the new Lotus Exige rally car, the Rallye GT. It runs the same supercharged 3.5 V6 as the Exige S, but power is down to 298bhp thanks to FIA-mandated 34mm air restrictors. And the weight is up too, to 1200kg, again because of FIA R-GT technical regulations.

Other tweaks includes a steel rollcage, front and rear underbody protection, Lexan side windows, an air scoop in the roof, three-way adjustable front and rear dampers, a six-speed sequential gearbox, new brake discs, upgrade calipers, a hydraulic handbrake and better cooling.

After months of media speculation Group Lotus is proud to announce the latest addition to the family: the extraordinary new Exige S, the ultimate lightweight high performance sportscar.

Alongside the staggering power to weight ratio, the Exige S has a completely new exterior and interior look and feel. The dramatic styling overhaul sees a completely new look for the Exige including a new front splitter and rear spoiler giving it a strong and aerodynamic profile.

There are two new interior package options available: Premium and Premium Sport. The Premium Pack provides added comfort and style where as the Premium Sport option focuses on creating an internal space optimised for ultimate driver involvement.

Built for the adrenalin hungry sportscar aficionado, the Exige S features high performance bespoke tyre package with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres as standard. A Lotus DPM (Dynamic Performance Management) switch allows the driver to switch between three driving modes: Touring, Sport and DPM off. And if three dynamic settings are not enough, an additional Race Pack option is available which adds a fourth driving mode setting: Race. This setting provides the maximum possible traction out of corners. The Race Pack also features Launch Control and an optimised suspension setting making the car perfect for letting rip on the track.

Commenting on the Exige S, Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer Dany Bahar said: “Anyone who has ever driven an Exige will tell you that it’s not for the faint-hearted. Zal oordelen nadat ik hem eens IRL gezien heb.
Vind hem niet zo super en al zeker de motor niet. Maar da's persoonlijke smaak.

BBC F1 anchorman Jake Humphries joined Lotus at the IAA in Frankfurt to present to the media a batch of new and improved cars to bolster the current lineup of products. Speaking with CEO Dany Bahar it was an opportunity for Lotus to showcase their current engineering talents and provide a link to the future cars which will be coming to us in 2013, starting with the Esprit to be presented in Geneva however the current range is important for the growth of the company and a key to the success of Bahars future plans for Lotus.

The Evora GTE was on display, Bahar explained that this is the fastest road car Lotus have ever produced and with its 105kg weight saving over the standard road car a true Lotus in the Chapman ethos of performance through lightweight. With sales much beyond expectations in the Far East this car will be available for first customer deliveries from Dec 2012/Jan 2013. The high pressure robotised gearshift uses systems from the same vendor that the Veyron and Zonda utiliseso expect blistering performance and solid reliability from this race car for the road.

Also in the show is the MY12 Evora which we’ve showcased previously here and to bring the Elise back into the true performance category is the Elise S, again with a 1.8l Toyota sourced engine with supercharger producing 220bhp. The advantage this car may have over previous SC Elise is that the torque now peaks at 2,000rpm and is 25% higher across the range, meaning the car will be more tractable and with a better response out of corners leading to an enhanced driving experience. We can also see the Elise SPS (Serial Precision Shift) which is a version of the 1.6l car with paddle shift, similar to the IPS fitted to the Evora and now Evora S.

Stealing the show is the new Exige S. Powered by the Evora’s 3.5l V6 with supercharger the car is 350bhp animal, a real drivers car for those who want performance, performance, performance. With an expected 3.8 second 0-60 sprint and 170mph top speed the expected retail price will be €70,060 and weighs in at 1,080kgs. The Exige S is to retail in the UK and ROW however it could make an appearance in the USA as a track or race car, dependant on availability of suitable events. It will also feature a ‘Race’ mode on the ECU which has been developed with Bosch and will have launch control and other race/track related features.

Finally Lotus Director of Motorsport Claudio Berro unveiled the Exige R-GT, a rally car expected to compete in tarmac rallying. This is a race discipline close to Berro’s heart as he was a co-driver in his previous career in the Sunbeam Lotus. This is a rally version of new Exige S and with further development could see weight savings and a sub-1,000 kgs racer, watch this space for more news on this car.

Ik ben fan van de Exige.
De laatste tijd zijn de Lotusjes IRL mooier dan op foto, dus dat belooft...
Donderdag dus eerst naar Hal 5 :lol:

naar mijn bescheiden mening ... De Exige is volwassen geworden :)

Voor mij een Exige zoals een Exige moet zijn.

In het echt zeer mooie wagen, ook de velgen zijn erg knap.

Gezien er al veel picts online staan, ga ik nu slapen en ga ik mijn foto's morgen plaatsen.
